The premium brand is taking the next important step towards sustainability and has successfully had products certified with the FSC™ label. This makes the Wendlingen-based company one of the first power tool manufacturer to commit to preserving forests for future generations.

Taking responsibility as a defined company goal

As a medium-sized family company, Festool is aware of its impact on the environment. The company's passion for high-quality power tools has continued for almost 100 years. The standard is perfection – no more and no less. The premium brand also applies this high quality standard to everything that it does. Festool therefore sees it as its corporate responsibility to use resources and energy efficiently across the world. The issue of sustainability has many dimensions, such as emissions, energy requirement, resource consumption and social aspects. For many years, Festool has been deliberately focusing on the factors of sustainability and quality, as the more long-lasting a product, the more positive its overall ecological balance. Festool has always been known for the high quality and durability of its products. As a result of this, tools come in for repair that have been in professional use for 20 years or more. Even a fault does not have to mean the end of a product's service life straight away. Through the full repair service and the ten-year spare part guarantee that Festool offers for all tools, the service life is significantly extended. Festool is now going one step further and is making the procurement of raw materials from responsible forest management in accordance with high ecological and social standards a defined company goal.

FSC certification system as another contribution towards sustainability

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council™. With its international certification system, the international non-profit organisation promotes ecologically appropriate, socially beneficial and economically profitable management of forests. Only products that are actually made from the corresponding raw materials are certified with the label. Festool takes a holistic approach when it comes to conversion. For instance, with FSC-certified products, not only the raw materials for the product itself but also those for the packaging come from responsible sources. Festool aims to offer at least 80% of the cellulose content in its products and packaging from FSC-certified sources by 2023. This is still a total of around 3400 tonnes of cellulose material each year. The product chain certificate used by Festool ("chain of custody certificate") is intended for wood and paper products where all stages along the supply chain are FSC-certified. This makes it possible to trace the products right back to the forest owner.

FSC-certified Festool products

The FSC certification (FSC-C164884) relates to the following product groups: DOMINO wooden connectors, filter bags, air filters, abrasive paper and multifunction tables. It is a well-known fact that the successful DOMINO dowels are made from wood. They originate from sustainable forest management and other controlled sources. Filter bags, air filters, abrasive paper and multifunction tables will be gradually converted. The FSC-certified products will then be labelled as such both in the catalogue and on the Festool website. As part of this process, the associated packaging and operating instructions will also be converted to ensure a uniform approach. With the FSC certification, Festool is one of the first power tool manufacturer in the industry to be FSC-certified.
