Powering ahead: Façades and interior fitting with the Festool 18-volt system

Cordless, flexible and yet still durable and powerful: Cordless electric power tools are indispensable when expanding wooden façades and fitting interiors. The Festool 18-volt system provides the perfect tools, for manufacturing façades in particular.

When working with timber – especially when building façades and fitting interiors – power, endurance and the freedom to implement projects without cables and without being attached are the primary criteria. With the 18-volt system, Festool provides an extensive range of cordless electric power tools capable of accomplishing the most important work associated with timber construction. When building wooden façades and fitting interiors, the HKC 55 cordless portable circular saw, the PDC 18/4 cordless impact drill and the PSC 420 Li cordless pendulum jigsaw are indispensable companions. The sturdy and splash-proof construction site radio, the SYSROCK BR 10 DAB+, which is also powered by the 18-volt system, provides the ultimate musical accompaniment for the construction site.

Façades: Cordless sawing with maximum precision
When mounting substructures for wooden façades, the HKC 55 cordless portable circular saw is the perfect partner: The compact portable circular saw cuts through the 30 to 40 mm strong wooden slats and frame quickly and cleanly. Wooden slats are secured using the PDC 18/4 cordless impact drill. Thanks to its impact function, this tool is the first choice for brick subsurfaces in particular. The various adaptors are extremely helpful for this type of assembly work: The AU-43 FFP elbow adapter can, for example, be used for screwing applications in hard-to-reach places and difficult angles on the façade. After assembling the façade, the corners can then be sawn off evenly. "Extreme sawing precision is required particularly at the corners of the outer wall of the façade," explains José Kunze, trainer and application expert at Festool. He adds, "The FS/2 guide rail with its varying length of between 800 and 5000 mm is indispensable for this work step when it comes to ensuring an even cut along the edge. The guide rail is also extremely useful when cutting window reveals to size." The PSC 420 Li cordless pendulum jigsaw is recommended when cutting out clean recesses for ventilation pipes or flue pipes.

Fitting interiors: Simply and without cables

When fitting interiors, the outdoor setup can be quickly laid out inside the building. Thanks to the SYSTAINER and cordless tools, buildings can be fitted out simply and quickly. Time for a lunch break. Meanwhile, the batteries are recharged – using battery packs BP 18 Li 5.2 AS Ah and BP 18 Li 6.2 AS with rapid charger SCA 8 featuring Airstream technology. Thanks to the intelligent cooling system, 80 percent of the battery power is available again in a very short space of time. But getting back to the tools. When attaching the wooden substructure, drywallers need to secure a large number of wooden slats. First, they are first cut to size using the HKC 55 – and then screwed on with the PDC 18/4. After cutting the gypsum fibre and plasterboard panels, these are screwed onto the substructure using the DWC 18-2500 cordless screwdriver. When working overhead, the powerful DWC with magazine adaptor clearly demonstrates its weight advantage – we recommend using it with the extremely lightweight (just 400 g) BP 18 Li 3.1 C compact battery, whereby the two together weigh just 2.0 kg. Another advantage of the DWC cordless screwdriver is the clever start/stop function. This ensures that the brushless electric motor does not continue to run during the idle phase in-between inserting the screws. The result is up to 40 percent more screwdriving power per battery charge. The magazine adaptor enables screws to be countersunk quickly one after the other so that you have more time at the end of the day for a well-deserved early finish. Now there is only one "electric power tool" to use: The SYSROCK BR 10 DAB+ construction site radio.
