Hopp Schwyz!

Sabrina Bosshard spent more than half a year preparing for EuroSkills 2023 in Gdansk. In the end, she took silver –

While Sabrina Bosshard is only 21 years old, she seems to have gained so much professional experience and confidence that it's hard to believe her young age. She is a painter and last year she competed at EuroSkills in Gdansk, Poland, and took home the silver medal. She was greatly influenced by the experience and the Swiss painter has immortalised it in the form of a tattoo on her forearm. It says "Legendary" – the name of the song that was always playing before and during the competition.

Sabrina Bosshard completed her apprenticeship at the Landolt painting company in Winthur, Switzerland, between 2018 and 2021. As one of the best in her cohort, she was invited to the Swiss championships and took second place. This also meant qualified her to compete at EuroSkills 2023. So began a tough yet inspiring time for the young painter. "My boss at the time was really supportive and let me go down to working four days a week. For over six months, I spent every Friday and every other Saturday training," she says.
She meticulously prepared for the competition with her expert coach at the training centre in Wallisellen, central Switzerland. The five mandatory disciplines at the event were a speed competition, drawing freehand lines, wallpapering pattern wallpaper around a corner, varnishing a door with a profile bar, and free style. Maximum dimensional deviation: 1 millimetre! "It really all comes down to your skills," underlines Sabrina Bosshard, "but it's also about correctly using tools and machines like the Festool ETS EC 150 eccentric sander or the delta sander."

She ultimately scored 741 points – just behind Bálint Czimmer from Hungary and ahead of Johanna Stabentheiner from Austria. "It was amazing!" beams Sabrina Bosshard. She also learned a lot from being part of a team. "We shared tips and pushed each other," she says. That's exactly what she wants to continue doing in the future. Her future goal is to train Swiss participants for EuroSkills as the expert coach. What's more, the 2029 edition of the competition will be held in Geneva, Switzerland. These "home" European Championships would certainly provide Sabrina Bosshard with an extra dose of motivation.
